3 Tips For Unpacking Into Your New Home

If you’re about to move into a new home, you might be dreading the unpacking stage. However, if you come into this with a plan and a commitment to unpack quickly rather than dragging it out for weeks, months, or even years, you may find that unpacking isn’t such an overwhelming task.

To help you come to this point, here are three tips for unpacking into your new home, be it a larger home or a smaller room in something like an assisted living facility

Start With A Plan

Just as with anything else, if you don’t have a plan for how you want to accomplish the task of unpacking into your new home, it’s very likely that things won’t  be organized and that you’ll quickly become distracted or overwhelmed with what you’re trying to do. But with a good plan in place, unpacking can be done thoughtfully and effectively.

As part of the plan, you’ll want to know which rooms to start with. Ideally, you should start with unpacking the kitchen, as this is a space that you’re going to be using multiple times each day. Next, you’ll want to unpack the bedrooms of those who will be living in the house. You should then move onto the bathrooms. Storage and utility spaces should be unpacked and organized last.

Place Your Largest Items First

When you start working on a room to unpack in your new home, it’s a good idea to start with the largest items first, including the furniture.

This is usually easy to accomplish, as furniture will usually be moved straight into the room that it’s meant for. Once you have the furniture set in the place that you want it, you can then start unpacking the smaller items in a way that makes sense around your furniture and other larger items.

Don’t Think You Have To Keep Everything You Brought With You

One of the benefits of unpacking the most vital rooms first and unpacking the largest and most important items into them before all of the details is that you can be sure that you’re unpacking the highest priority items that you definitely want to have in your space. Then, as you continue to unpack, you can determine if everything that you packed up to take into your new home actually makes sense in the space.

It’s perfectly fine to not keep everything that you packed to bring into your new home. If you come to find that you don’t have a place or the space for something in your new home, it’s best to just put that thing aside until you can decide whether to make space or if you can move onto your new life in your new home without that item.

If you’ll soon be unpacking into a new home, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you through this process.
